By installing or using the HideMyDoc Chrome extension ("the Extension") or the HideMyDoc web application ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Extension or Service.
HideMyDoc provides document anonymization tools that allow users to replace sensitive information in documents with placeholders before sharing content with third-party AI chatbots (ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini). The Service includes:
You may need to create an account to use certain features. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account.
You agree not to:
You retain full ownership of all documents and content you process through the Service. All document processing happens locally on your device—your content is never uploaded to, stored on, or processed by our servers, so you grant us no license to it. Anonymized text that you choose to send to a third-party AI platform is shared directly with that platform under its own terms, not through us.
While the Service uses automated entity recognition to identify and replace sensitive information, no automated system is 100% accurate. We do not guarantee that all sensitive information will be detected, replaced, or kept out of the messages and files you send to third-party AI platforms.
The Extension operates inside third-party websites (ChatGPT.com, Claude.ai, and Gemini) that we do not control and that may change without notice. Such changes—as well as software defects, browser behavior, conflicting extensions, or misconfiguration— can cause the Extension to fail in whole or in part, including failing to anonymize content or failing to prevent an original, un-anonymized file or text from being transmitted to the AI platform.
You are solely responsible for reviewing all content— messages, attachments, and anonymized output—before sending it to any third-party AI platform, and for deciding whether the Service is appropriate for a given document. You assume all risk associated with sharing content with third-party AI platforms while using the Service. Do not rely on the Service as your sole safeguard for confidential, regulated, or legally privileged information. Use of the Service does not by itself constitute compliance with any data protection regulation (GDPR, HIPAA, PIPEDA, etc.).
The Extension operates within third-party platforms (ChatGPT.com, Claude.ai, and Gemini). We are not affiliated with OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google. We are not responsible for the availability, functionality, or policies of these third-party services. Your use of ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini is subject to their respective terms of service.
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service at any time, with or without notice. We are not liable to you or any third party for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of the Service.
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, revenue, or profits arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service.
Without limiting the foregoing, and to the maximum extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any disclosure of sensitive, confidential, personal, or privileged information to any third party (including AI platforms) arising from or related to your use of the Service—whether caused by a failure or inaccuracy of anonymization, a failure to intercept an upload, changes to third-party websites, software defects, or your own acts or omissions. As set out in Section 6, you—not HideMyDoc—are responsible for the content you transmit to third-party AI platforms.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability for all claims arising out of or relating to the Service shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amounts you paid us for the Service in the twelve (12) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, and (b) fifty Canadian dollars (CAD $50). Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain warranties or damages; in those jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless HideMyDoc, its developers, and affiliates from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of the Service or violation of these Terms.
We may terminate or suspend your access to the Service at any time, without prior notice, for conduct that we believe violates these Terms or is harmful to other users, us, or third parties. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. You may terminate your use at any time by uninstalling the Extension and ceasing use of the web application.
We may revise these Terms at any time by posting the updated version on this page. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
